I think I've mentioned it in a previous blog, but I am working toward becoming a Texas Master Gardener. I applied to the program last fall, went through the interview process, was accepted and started the program in January. I attended classes once a week throughout the spring semester and wrapped those up in May. It has been a really fun experience for me and a great opportunity to give back to my community and make new friends! I'm currently working on my volunteer hours and as long as I meet all of the requirements, I should become a full-fledged TX Master Gardener at year end! I need to take some more recent photographs of how things look now that they are becoming established, but the photographs below are reflections of "the beginning"...
Construction of my first raised bed - we've been enjoying cucumbers, squash, cherry tomatoes, jalapenos and basil out of it this summer!
Jeremy constructing our compost bin - it has been "cooking" and breaking down yard waste and kitchen waste ever since!
Our first rain barrel - I attended a rainwater harvesting workshop in the spring and came home with my very own rain barrel! I was very excited! It fills up super fast during a heavy rain, and we've enjoyed using it to water our garden! We could definitely use a few more...
Planting our front flower bed!
My mom came for a visit in the spring when it was still cool out, and we had fun going to the nursery, picking out plants and getting our front bed prepped and planted. I think Jeremy and Tucker were really impressed with how much we got accomplished in one day!
